You already know what you’d do if you weren’t afraid.
You just haven’t said it out loud. That’s not a knowledge problem, and no amount of reading fixes it.
Who this is for
Three people I hear from most.
- Two years into “thinking about” leaving a job that pays fine and means nothing.
- Good at something you don’t care about, and afraid to find out whether you’re any good at what you do care about.
- Carrying a conversation — with a boss, a spouse, a parent, a partner — so long it’s become furniture.
What those three have in common: they don’t need more information. They need to say the thing.
The promise
Stop waiting to feel ready.
In twelve weeks you’ll have had the conversation you’ve been avoiding, and a written plan for the ninety days after.
Not a feeling. Not a framework you admire from a distance. A conversation that happened, and a plan with dates in it.
How it works
Three things I actually do. None of them is a pep talk.
-
Name it.
The real conversation is usually not the one you walked in with.
-
Rehearse it.
What you’ll say, what you’re afraid of hearing back, and what you’ll do if it goes badly.
-
Have it.
Then we debrief what actually happened — including if it went sideways.
Why the chicken
The moment before you speak is the whole thing.
On a speaking tour in Ecuador, a shaman handed me a tiny rubber chicken and told me not to be one. He was killed a year after that trip, because a group of people didn’t communicate clearly enough.
I’ve carried his message ever since. In this work the chicken stops being a prop and becomes what it always was — the thing you hold in the moment before you open your mouth.
